Senior Software Engineer - Portal - Phoenix PDF Print E-mail

Position Summary:
This position will be the senior software engineer primarily responsible for the student and faculty portal platform. Responsibilities will include overall architecture, software and hardware design, implementation and delivery of portal based functionality and content. Other responsibilities will include project oversight through the entire software development lifecycle, interfacing with existing application teams and business units..

KEY JOB ELEMENTS

• Develop and implement mission critical applications within the realm of the student and faculty portal environment
• Provide business critical solutions with portal technology, as well as develop portlets and web services to integrate applications within the portal
• Maintain all content administration functions, as well as portal administration, preferably with BEA's AquaLogic (formerly Plum Tree), including Crawlers, Jobs, Web Services, Portlets, Publisher and Analytics in the development, stage and production environment
• Mentor and cross train other developers to enhance and modify legacy applications to best work within the portal environment
• Work with business customers to translate functional requirements into technical designs
• Work across the organization partnering with other technical teams in support of portal initiatives
• Some travel is required

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: VP, Student & Faculty Web Applications
Works closely with: Other members of IT Department, assigned employees in other departments, and end users of systems.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering and system design
• Minimum of 2 years of in-depth technical working experiencing with PlumTree 5.0 or higher (BEA AquaLogic User Interaction - ALUI)
• Strong experience in object oriented design and analysis
• Experience with C#, ASP.net, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, IIS, Web Services, XML and SQL required
• Experience integrating packaged solutions in a portal environment and knowledge of IIS, .NET framework (2.0) and Major Web Browsers (IE, FireFox, Opera and Safari) is required
• Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle using Microsoft technologies, XP and Design Patterns, required
• Demonstrated QA skills and attention to detail required
• Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to learn new technical skills required
• Ability to provide team leadership for development projects
• Strong written and communication skills along with abilities to perform thorough analysis (with a strong emphasis on critical thinking abilities)
• Highly motivated, results driven with strong work ethics

ACCOUNTABILITY

Direct: Provide oversight and technical leadership on all technical aspects of the student and faculty portal.
Indirect: Mentor and lead a technical team of software developers and business analysts responsible for all project deliverables.
